We are a group of volunteer teams (pet and handler) who visit nursing homes,
assisted living homes, homes for the handicapped and other facilities.
We find that our friendly visits are always welcomed by both the residents
and their care givers. Pet volunteers have an instinctive way of giving comfort
and joy to folks which often exceeds human contact. On some days, a visit from a
Pets On Wheels volunteer team may be the only contact from the outside world for a resident.
Many residents have had to give up their pets and enjoy remembering them when they interact
during a Pets On Wheels visit.
Visiting teams receive support
and training from other Pets On Wheels members. All pets are temperament tested by a
qualified screener and must be certified by a veterinarian annually.
Our visiting teams are adequately insured.
Pets On Wheels,
Delmarva was founded in 1993 by a group of dedicated individuals
and has grown to encompass the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake
Bay. We have many dedicated volunteer teams visiting facilities
in our area, but we still have work to do. Presently, we have
over forty additional facilities that would like to have our visits
and we need to broaden our volunteer base. Pets On Wheels is a
non-profit organization, completely staffed by volunteers and
dependent on contributions for all costs.
